How to Care for Your Waist Beads
Waist beads are designed to be worn continuously, but a little care goes a long way in keeping them beautiful. Here's how to maintain your strands so they last.
Can You Shower or Swim With Them?
Most waist beads can be worn in the shower. However, prolonged exposure to chlorine (pools) or saltwater (ocean) can weaken the thread or affect certain bead finishes over time. Rinse with fresh water after swimming and pat dry.
Cleaning Your Beads (Removeable Strands)
Gently wipe your beads with a soft, damp cloth. For a deeper clean, use mild soap and warm water, then rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before wearing again. Avoid harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners.
Protecting the Thread
The thread is the most vulnerable part of a waist bead strand. Avoid snagging on rough surfaces, and be mindful when pulling on clothing. If you notice fraying, it’s time to re-string or replace the strand.
Storing Your Beads
If you remove your beads (clasp styles), store them flat or loosely coiled in a soft pouch or jewelry box. Avoid tangling with other jewelry, which can stress the thread and scratch the beads.
When to Replace
Even with great care, waist beads are meant to be a living part of your practice. When a strand breaks or feels energetically complete, it may simply be time for a new one — a natural transition, not a loss.
